July: Fully Alive

June asks what is possible; July asks you to live it.

If June is possibility, July is participation.

July arrives with a fullness all its own. The days stretch lazily toward evening - what a treat to have light so long. And the mornings - they arrive far sooner that I am ready for. But I never miss an early morning and that cool before the sun's full intensity.

Here in Tucson, the desert sky begins its daily negotiation with the monsoon. Thunderheads gather in the distance with operatic drama, occasionally delivering on their promises and occasionally just showing off.

As a child, summer felt endless and time seemed to almost stop.

As an adult, July feels precious, and we have to wring every last drop of it or somehow we fel like we have wasted it away. And July brings that ceratin tird as a result. I call it "hose fatigue", endlessly pulling hoses and sloshing buckets of water to save the plants and flowers from summer itself.

This is a poignant sweetness of the summer. After all the chores, the battle of hydration - for us and the plants, there is dinner on the patio. A conversation that lingers. A book that follows you from room to room and from unoccupied deck chair to deck chair. The scent of rain in the desert.

This is High Summer.

A season that asks us to get out of our heads and into our body. and shorts.

Amazonite: The Truth Teller

Ruby is among the hardest natural minerals on Earth, surpassed only by diamond. Its legendary red color comes from traces of chromium hidden within the crystal structure. Revered for centuries by kings, healers, artists, and alchemists alike, Ruby has long symbolized vitality, leadership, and the creative force that transforms imagination into reality.

Rich and luminous, like an ember at the heart of a fire, carrying both passion and possibility. A color that refuses to sit quietly in the corner.

Ruby has long been called the Magician's Stone, and I love that. Not because it promises magic, but because it reminds us where the magic comes from.

If Ruby is the sacred flame, Carnelian is the dance.
